Life Rendered is a hybrid live-action and virtual production short film co-written and directed by Emma Needell. Set in rural Colorado, the film follows a gay rancher who escapes into virtual reality in search of connection and romance—a poignant exploration of identity, isolation, and the intersection between technology and longing.
Produced using Unreal Engine and real-time motion capture, Life Rendered was awarded an Epic MegaGrant and premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival before screening globally and qualifying for Academy Award consideration.
The film is both a technological achievement and an emotionally resonant story about finding intimacy in unexpected places.
